Age 60+ is the new workforce
In 2025 27% of the UK population will be over 60 so getting in the correct methods to work with this untapped resource is most likely the best way to create an efficient, reliable and quality working environment. Tapping into this resource is not difficult either with a high proportion of age 60 and above out of work. The key is training. Statistics show that less than 20% of over 60's are being trained now making them less likely to get jobs in the future due to the stereotype that they are less efficient, in fact Meadows (2003) concluded that there is no discernible deterioration in performance, at least up until the age of 70. She found the factor that impacted on level of performance was training; precisely what older workers are likely to be excluded from. The bad news? By 2030, 19 million people in the UK will be aged over 60. The good? If training methods for the older workforce is put in place and experienced and loyal workforce is yours.
