Does money motivate?
Now if I imagine myself as an employee, in a low motivated job like say carrying a lump of wood and placing it in a box all day will I be motivated normally? No, it takes a lot more. Money is thought to be (for most managers) the best way to motivate but studies show that money only motivates in the short term until that buzz of more money goes, so what’s the best option? Motivating with money is possible in the long term but this increases direct costs so the better way is given by McGregor’s xy theory by in this case mostly Y, the ‘trick’ is to praise workers constantly for doing good work, statistics show this improves job satisfaction. Go out there now and start parsing if you want a more motivated workforce.
